The mission of the Erik Lerch Foundation is to assist families in the Mount Airy, Maryland area who are facing medical emergencies or life threatening medical conditions involving a child. To coordinate efforts to provide emotional and financial support to the families, and to promote character education in our schools.
As usual, the Mount Airy community is rallying around our families who need help. There will be several fundraisers coming up to assist the family of Jacqueline Hobbs. Select the link on the left for Jacqueline's page for more information. Thank you to all who are assisting the Hobbs.
UPDATE 11 July 2008 - Jacqueline recently had her second surgery to remove tumor growth in her back. The surgery went well, but was much more invasive than they had previously anticipated. Initial scans came back clear, but the third and final scan showed cancer cells in her bone marrow. As a result, Jacqueline will be starting chemo again next week. In the near future, she will be undergoing stem cell treatments, similar to MacKenzie's latest journey.
UPDATE 11 July 2008 - MacKenzie is currently undergoing treatment at Hopkins. She just received her second stem cell transplant and is tolerating the procedure well so far. She will be in hospital for another couple of weeks and then back to their 'summer home' (apartment in Baltimore) where they will need to stay until the docs clear her to go home for good.
